The search for beautifully made, luxe holiday pieces, which fashion editor and leading stylist Kim Hersov always wanted, but could never find, led to the conception of Talitha; a bohemian collection forming the ultimate travel wardrobe. Hand embroidered kaftans, tailored shorts born from hand made Indian scarves, woven cotton play suits and shirts, and intricately worked kimonos and capes, reinvent beach basics.
Created together with Shon Randhawa, who works closely with local artisans and craftsmen at her atelier in New Delhi where the collection is made, the pair dipped into Randhawa's embroidery archives and researched local craft traditions to create a signature depth to each piece. ‘The Talitha collection is deeply inspired by the rich cultural heritage of India's arts and crafts,' reveals Randhawa. 'We selected the most talented embroiderers to work on the collection, using their expert knowledge and techniques to create versatile, yet timeless, garments.'
Originally influenced by Marissa Berenson and Kate Moss, two world travellers; each with a holiday style as influential as any catwalk collection, both perfectly combining a relaxed hippy aesthetic with a refined edge, allowing it to translate from the exotic to the urban. But the Talitha woman has already flourished beyond those muses. Hersov pulled from her early life in San Francisco, growing up in a bohemian environment, where tie-dye, peasant blouses and maxi dresses were part of her style sensibility. In part, Talitha is an extension and evolution of that world, but leaves the hippy inclination behind, replacing it with a luxurious finish. Hersov imagines the woman as a stylish bohemian, who spends her life travelling the world, leaping from one exotic location to another. Living on a whim, but always dressed for the most exceptional of eventualities.
By it's very name, Talitha has Aramaic origins, lending to its exotic nature, but the collection fits those who live the nomadic fantasy to those who simply want to weave dreams of Morocco or Tulum into their everyday city lifestyle. Each piece has been on a journey, born out of forgotten highly skilled traditions, revisited to tell a new story. But only now does the real adventure begin.
